During December of 2020, the Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU) released new guidelines on limits for purchasing medical cannabis, and these new restrictions will be in effect on Tuesday, March 1st. It’s still a shock that it happened, and a bit of a travesty because it sort of proves this lingering thought of mine where recreational cannabis in Florida will not be happening any time soon. More and more rules and restrictions are being created in the industry, and with an abundance of new companies looking to open up in Florida in the coming months, you can expect a bit of a struggle for patients who are ALREADY skeptics of Florida’s cannabis industry.
Here is how the flower allotment works:
On March 1st, ALL patients will enter a 35-day limit of 2.5 ounces of flower, ending on April 4th.
After April 4th, each patient will begin their own 35-day period after their next purchase.
You will not be able to purchase more than 2.5 ounces at any point in the 35 days, changing the way many patients have been purchasing medical cannabis.
Before, it was simply a 2.5 ounce-limit every 35 days. So, hypothetically, someone could buy 2.5 ounces twice in the same week, as long as they haven’t previously bought any flower AND the limits were bought before and after the new cycle dates. The state cracked down on that aspect of shopping, for whatever reason, and it‘ll only piss people off more so than they already are.
The state has already proven to have corrupt legislators and lawmakers involved in the industry, and combined with the kind of revenue being made, the dream of smoking freely and openly in the Sunshine State seems to be fading due to ongoing power moves by lawmakers. Corruption, money, and power are directly influencing a medical industry. Medical. But, what the fuck else is new with Florida? Things like this don’t shock me. You can be 18 and get your medcard but have to be 21 to buy rolling papers at a smoke shop. What kind of shit is that? Backwards laws continue to restrict freedoms for cannabis users, so buckle up. There are more rules and regulations coming!
